what does everyone think about using a kane heat mat in a wooden cage

dmreptiles Nov 02, 2003 07:53 PM

this cage will be a custom made cage. I plan on putting the mat on the inside with a thermostat

Go for it, I use one in a wooden cage and they work great but they can get hot so use a thermostat

I agree and say go for it. We built these customs this summer and we have 18" x 18" Kanes on them. We use a big apple thermostat to regulate the heat and they work great. Good luck

thanks for the replies. I have one more question where do you put the thermostat probe? should i put it directly on top of the mat a bit above it? thank you

Well I placed my mats in specially made slots under the floor. And I placed the probe on top of the mat. The thermostat reading is slightly higher than the actual temps in the tanks. But this is obvious since the mats are outside of the tank. Like I said, this has worked great for me.
