I'm in Indiana, going on vacation....How is Herpin' this time a year in Central FL?

I'm goin' on vacation to central FL latter this week, and I was wantin' to know how is herpin' this time-0-year? I'm mainly interested in snakes(particulary hots), and crocodilians. Everything here in Indiana is totally brumating this time of year. I nomally go to FL in the spring, but now I'm going in Nov.

Thanks Fellow Herpers!

What you call winter back home is the active season in South Florida. I did (many years ago)find better success in the fall and winter when herping in central Fla. I caught the prettiest pink canebreak in the area of Bell Fla the day before Xmas in 1985!

I run three-six times a week in a park in west central Florida. During most of the summer I don't see snakes during my runs. But "cool" (remember that's a relative term--days low eighties, nights sixties) weather has been here for the last week or so, and on my last three runs i've come across a small adult yellow rat on the boardwalk; a small adult yellow rat in the narrow road to the park's parking lot; and a dor ribbon snake on that same short stretch of pavement. NOthing particularly exciting particularly about those animals, but it made it apparent that the fall season of reptile activity has begun.

You should get plenty of views of big gators, too, i noticed one on my last run out sunning, instead of the usual brows-above-the-surface. I guess they're valuing their thermoregulation more as the water & days get cooler.

Enjoy! If you're on the west central coast try weedon isle park in st petersburg, i've seen diamondbacks there a couple times when visitors came to town and wanted to see something hot. Boyd HIll park, at lake maggiore, in st. pete, will occ asionally have a coral snake in view, though i'm not sure that happens as often in fall as in the spring.

RIGHT MARK, i shoul dhave said that. Sorry, Indy. To me "herpin" means mainly "lookin'" these days, not collecting.
