Desperate For Help Update # 2: Introducing Ecko The Gecko

Heather Nov 03, 2003 06:50 AM

He made it through the weekend! When we first saw Him, we were sure He wouldn't make it till monday. Well, He did! And He downed another waxie this morning!! Yes I know, I have to be careful with them. But I'd rather He eat them then not eat at all. And He needs the weight. But He's still here and kicking. On Saturday, On the way home from the show He was given to us at, Mom decided to name Him. Even though we didn't think He'd make it. I refused to call Him by name. But now that I have a good feeling that He's gonna make it, I'll be using his name. He is "Ecko The Gecko". He's getting a little stubborn about licking water/gatorade from his nose.... Don't know how I'm gonna hydrate Him now... Do waxies have a lot of water in them? Will He get all his water from them? He still keeps His eyes closed a lot. I know He can open both of them but He chooses not to. And when He does open them, it's usually only one eye .... Not both... What's up with that? Anyway, He's still going strong. He's a fighter for sure. Thanks so much guys for all your advice and help!!!! I'll keep the updates coming!

Hi Heather

Thank you for updating use on Ecko.

You said that he is getting more stubborn about licking fluid of his nose, have you tried putting a little cap of water and pedyalite in there to see if he may try to drink on his own?.

Why don't you try to see what happens if you try putting some turkey baby food on his nose with some calcium mixed in it,that is room temp.. Once opened you will have to keep it in the frig. and take out what you need at one time and let it get to room temp.

Take Care, TLB

If he's spending time in his humid hide, that will help to keep him hydrated. It's kind of like how nutrition experts tell you to take more showers during the summer time. I've seen my leos lick at the wet paper towels inside their hides, too, probably just to check things out more than anything else, but they're still getting some water there. And yes, waxworms do have some juices to help keep your little guy hydrated.

He's still a baby, and babies naturally don't take well to handling. My guess is that since he's getting more feisty, it probably means that he's just getting enough energy to put up a fight now.

I couldnt help noticing that out of all the animals you have listed in your sig, your kingsnake is the only one that's M.I.A.
Man, those kingsnakes sure are escape artists! Ive had a friend of mine who keeps kingsnakes lose two out of the four he has kept over the years, and those are the only two animals that have ever gone missing. Where there's a will, there'w a way I guess. We still dont know how one of those kingsnakes got out, and I guess we never will!

yeah there was this one kingsnake that always escaped at the pet store where I used to work.

I don't know how she got out either. Broke our heart.... 5 months later She's still missing.... I'm pretty sure She's dead. I figure if She's not back by the end of november, I'll take her out of My signature. But I highly doubt She's still alive....
