Corn breeding rack...please advise

artfan1 Nov 03, 2003 09:24 AM

I wasn't sure if I should post this rack question here or the cage forum so I apologies in advance.

I have built several racks for my leos. But I am getting ready to build one for colubrids. My questions are this.
What is the best size rubbermaid for the adult pair of corns? And is it better to use the heat tape along the bottom or can I run it down the back side?

I ask because running it down the back would be much easier of course but I want to do it right?

Lastly, anyone who could post pics of your corn's breeding racks would be very helpful. I did a search but was coming up with very little to answer this so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask again.

Thanks so much,
Troy

I just finished a very nice rack made from melamine. I used the 32 quart sterlite tubs (from Target). The rack has 6 shelves and holds 2 tubs per shelf for a total of 12.....I'll post pics later this evening. It came out really nice. I run the heat table down the back...much easier and just as effective.

I appreciate any photos. It helps, plus it's always fun to see what others are doing.

I am glad to hear I can run the heat tape down the pack. It will make my life so much easier. I will use the wider tape though, that way, I get more control.

Thanks,
Troy

This one is for babies, but the design is the same for adults.
Be careful of the sizing or spacing of the shelves. I dadoes the shelves as to not have screws on the sides.
The heat tape is recessed to avoid abrasion. I like bottom for better disgestion. Others will argue that back heat is better, but my back is open for more light to enter.

Wow, nice rack! he he. (sorry)

I like how you have the dividers in there to keep things straight.

Thanks for the photo.
