Which side are you and what are your reasons?

Burmuda Nov 03, 2003 01:03 PM

Have been seeing so many different opinions. Without a debate I would like to see the reasons why people are for or against hybrids. Make this as civil as possible....if possible.

Rather than bring it up again, why don't you just read what's been posted. The people here are interested in producing hybrids or owning them, not defending our right to produce them. If you want further discussion, I'd suggest you identify problems and POSITIVE solutions that do not interfere with our right to produce hybrids.

..if you plan on telling all these people to read the posts. I have been here for years and every know nothing comes to this forum to enlighten us. Its a shame KS forum mods will not have a seperate forum for such debates. Or at the very least remove disruptive posts like they do on other forums. The mods have even posted on other forums when hybrid debates come along and direct them to this forum. I guess they think think we do not have a place to discuss this in peace...

My suggestion is for everyoine to start hybrid debates on the other forums. After all isn't that where we should dicuss pure and how hybrids are better , have more color and a thing called hybrid VIGOR. Seems as logical to me as coming here to argue against hybrids

I think the simple thing to do when people come here just to rant, is for the first person to read it to politely tell the poster to ** **** ******** and then everybody ignore the troll.

Personally, I intend to purebreed some lines using locality caught animals - no morphs nor crosses of females to other species or animals from other localities - and also hybridize. I think anyone, myself included, who seeks to sell snakes as purebreds ought to be required to document that the animals are, in fact, purebred. That requires an organization or set of organizations that register the breeding stock. I've looked around Kingsnake.com and have not seen anybody trying to organize a snake registry. It seems to me somebody ought to get to work on it and who better to do so than those who need something better to do than come over here and rant about hybrids.

A national registry was completely developed for reptiles in 1999-2000 by an individual in Florida, patterned after the registry for rabbits, and was extremely well done.

The end result of this work ......

The individual who developed the registry was threatened by at least one person who falsely accused him of attempting to create a database for wildlife law enforcement authorities.

...Gosh! That has got to be the nicest snake I have ever seen. Actually it rates in the top two nicest snakes I have ever seen. The other HDEAN has in his collection.

Bigfoot Nov 07, 2003 11:56 PM

So it's been tried. Thanks for the information.

If that snake isn't in the photo gallery it should be. And if it is, I'd appreciate the URL. That single picture is all the response necessary to those who come over here and harass us about raising hybrids.

p.s. Do you happen to know how I might find that private hybrid forum that excludes the antihybridizers? As much as I dislike going private, the negativism expressed by certain individuals here is getting to me.

That is a real nice looking snake, almost reminds me of strawberry ice cream, but no antihybridizer would be turned around by any snake produced by hybridizers. It's not about the look of the snake, it's about the lack of purity and the confusion it can create.

Funny but the antihybridizing, anti-morph purists don't seem to realize that if it weren't for the hybridizers and morph producers, they would have a real problem finding feed for their snakes.

Doubtful. I could catch as many mice as I would need(even by hand...yeah, it is that easy). Not hard at all.

You are going to try to catch wild mice by hand? All the domestic house mice are hybrids and morphs.

Exactly...It really isn't hard. Flipping in the right area will produce a ton of mice. Bop em over the head, stick em on ice, and you got snake food for a month.

I have no idea what you might be flipping. There is certainly nothing near where I live that I might flip to find mice. I doubt many people "go flipping" to find snake food. Most people either buy domestic hybrid mouse morphs to feed their snakes or raise the mice themselves. This includes those who come here and rant about us raising hybrid snakes.

Oh. Well any good looking board in grassland area can produce rodents. Some good days I get a fairly large haul. In fact I sometimes have to let some go as I get too many. Especially good way to get live pinks and fuzzies when you need them. And since I catch my mice, it gives me some leverage over others.
