Well, in my case, neither! I generally start breeding dumerils more in the January/February time period. Your going to get different variations depending on many factors from different breeders. Some do no cycling with dumerils, others do diurnal cycling, while others do temperature cycling, and some do both, and some have no idea what they are doing/did. Dumerils are not real difficult to breed generally speaking, or things would be a little more concrete. Most publications list gestation as anywhere from 6-9 months. I predicted 4 litters this year from past breeding experiences, and hit within a week of my assumptions of Dumerils breeding patterns. All I'll say right now is it's not anywhere near 8 months as generally mentioned. Anyway, key factor as with other boids, do not seperate them when you THINK the female may have ovulated. Dumerils in my experience will breed anytime of year if you put a male with a female. It's getting the female to ovulate that takes time. The most visual clue I can tell you to look for is your female resting inverted for a few days, followed by a shed in about two weeks. You should notice your female looking swollen before the inverted period, but if you miss that, and see the inversion wait to see how long until the next shed. Within that two week time period, estimate 4-4 1/2 months, and you should be seeing babies. That's a rough draft of it, I have things down a little more precise, but this should do you for now I hope. By the way, I do cycle my dumerils. If this isn't what you were looking for in a reply, let me know, and I'll be glad to give it another shot. I think you'll find them fairly easy to reproduce though. Take care!

My pair have been going at it for over a month now on and off! I don't cycle... first year breeding Dumeril's... my female is almost 9 feet long !!!
The male is just barely 4' and very lite and reduced in pattern with high orange.
Can't wait to see what happens!

take care, Joe

I have seen breeding behavior between november and April, but babies have always come late August.
