New to Balls and have a basking spot question

ecliff212 May 30, 2003 09:36 AM

I just got my first ball and he is great but I have a question about basking spots.

1. should I make the basking spot at ground level or elevate it on a branch or rock of some sort?

2. for the basking lamp should I use a reg. light bulb or get a red heat light?

3. for a 20 long tank what wattage bulb shoud I use?

Thanx in advance for any help and if you can add any other info you think I might need please feel free to add it in.

Eric

I would say that your basking area should probably be level ground. Although some Balls may climb, most do not do alot of it, and will usually be found basking on the ground. As far as light color goes that is pretty much up to you. If you Ball is one who likes to hide alot, it may appreciate a red or purple bulb, as it may feel more comfortable without a spot light. Also it is good to have a hide close to you basking so your Ball can still be under a hide but also near the warmest part of the cage. I would not however put the hide directly under the heat light. And lastly for a 20L tank I would use a 100 Watt basking bulb to achieve 90-95 degree basking spot. Hope this helps.
