what is brumation? what happens? explain
brumation is similar to hybernation. It is when the metabolism of a dragon (and other reptiles) slow down and they enter a deep sleep state. In t his state they don't need to eat or drink, living on stored fat for anywhere from 2-14 weeks. Because of their lowered metabolism they don't use up alot of stored energy as they don't require any.
What causes brumation in the wild is a shortening of the days and cooler weather. In the pet trade, we control their environment so some dragons don't go into brumation at all, others do so despite no changes to their environment. Some breeders will 'cycle' their females by getting them to brumate, shortening the daylight hours to about 10 hours a day and lowering the day and night temps about 10-15F. After a month or so they will then increase day/night temps and daylight hours to simulate 'spring'.
This is just a very basic description of brumation. If you wnat more indepth information about brumation, running a search on any search engine should provide a wealth of information.
