Color Morph breeding questions...part 2( i aksed this question earlier but i didnt get 2 many replies)

LizardLuva Nov 03, 2003 08:30 PM

Hello everyone,
I am going to start into the Leopard Gecko Breeding Buisness soon and would like to now of a color or color combination that i could produce that wouldnt be too expensive ( under 100 for the pair, not a $450 female and a $700 male) that would sell fairly well. Personally, I like the Tremper Albino strain that are "high yellow" or "tangerine". I will most likely be getting these geckoes at a local monthly expo so i would like to be able to find it, Thanks everyone for all your help that you have given me.

...because they're getting annoyed with the question. It's been asked more than a couple times, and people are just tired of reading it. Do some web research first. There are a million websites out there that discuss different morphs, combinations, breeding, etc. Try google.com. It's a good place to start.

If you have a more specific question (ie. if I combine a ___ with ____ what are the odds it will create ___) I know people will answer, but if you just say "what can I get for a pair and what will it create, and keep it under $100" (or $60, or $75 or whatever your budget is that day), nobody really wants to answer that.

It's really hard to want to help when questions are vague and repetetive. Do a little research and try again, and I'm sure some of the very knowledgeable breeders on here will answer SPECIFIC questions.

Also, I have to side with kilidraven who discussed the appropriateness of a 13 year old planning to breed in a year or a few years. Your life will get busy, and if you head off to college, it may get crazy busy, so before you go an invest a lot into a future breeding program, stop and think about the logistics. Especially if you already have other lizards or snakes. Landlords and residence co-ordinators aren't too keen on students showing up with a room full of aquariums (note: the rooms are usually about 10ftx12ft, there isn't any space for anything other than your bed, books, etc). I know I'm getting down the road a bit here, but leos can live for 15-20 years, so be careful now, rather than resorting to a rescue later.

I know that's probably a lot of long term planning to lay on a 13 year old, but it's my opinion.

Try not to take this too personally, I'm just trying to lay out the facts for you and give you a heads up. Hopefully you'll post a specific question and someone will discuss the genetics. Search back through the forum for some really good questions on pairings and probabilities of certain offspring (you'll get to probability and statistics in highschool).

this would be the only herp that i would actually keep for a while. I just wanted to know peoples opinions on the matter of color combinations. I plan to stay at home for Undergrad school, and go to University of Florda to become a D.V.M. specializing in herpatology. I will only keep a pair (not too much space )and i have played with the factors. Thanks for your input though!

everybody has diff ideas on which morphs they like. Pick the one you like and look for it at a show, maybe you'll see something there that really catches your eye in your price range and go for it. I'd start out with one and learn how to care for it before you move on to more. It get spendy with multiple geckos and especially breeding. Good luck.
