Ackie substrate questions

therupert Nov 03, 2003 09:47 PM

I have a 3 month old Ackie coming and I'm trying to get the cage setup and ready. I've decided to go soil/sand mix, but I'm wondering what the minimum depth of substrate can be that will still be suitable for the Ackie's needs. The cage that I purchased to keep it in is 36"L x 17"H x 17"W. I've read that there should be 12" of substrate, but that just won't work with the setup I have...but I still need to make this cage usuable.

So what are peoples thoughts on substrate? Can I get by with 3 - 4"?

I'm using the stacking wood panels from the Proexotics site as well as other hidespots. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

even if you give the monitors 2 ft, they will still dig to the bottom of it, so even that isn't deep enough. if you are limited to a few inches by your choice of cage, and it is too late to change that choice, then it really isn't a question, right?

just give them as much as possible. if it is four inches, it is four inches, but they would appreciate, and use, much deeper.
