Veiled Eggs. Simple Question.

Brock Nov 03, 2003 10:10 PM

This is my female's fourth clutch of eggs but first time breeding. I got 28 eggs this time which seem nice and healthy, she laid them on Oct 29th. My question is, how long does it take for them to turn pink? I can see some veins in one of them, and lots of the rest have a tiny, tiny pink thing in them and some have little red spots on some parts where others have some black on the inside of the shell.

I hope these ones are good.

Eggs will show mostly yellow color for a few months after being laid. If they're infertile, they would normally spoil in about 2 weeks, but there are those that begin to develop and will go bad later on. In the last 2 or so months, more and more reds and oranges (and veins) will show up inside the eggs when candled and right before hatching, they will look very dark, with about half of the egg looking almost solid (shows no light through). Were her first 3 clutches all infertile (never bred before that)? Seems like alot of infertile clutches to me maybe you should cut back feeding a bit if that's the case.

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Are the little red spots normal?

Her first 3 clutches she had never been bred, this is the first time I've tried breeding her.

I'm not sure which little red spots you're referring to, but red spots would be better than brown or yellow spots. If they're fresh eggs (October) they're probably not from developing yet.
