acquiring lab mice

sgg12899 Nov 04, 2003 01:14 AM

Hi. I have been breeding mice for over 15 years now. to feed my large reptile collection. I have a moderate sized breeding facility 432 cages of mice. I imported My current strain from Australia a couple of years ago. they have a pretty good reproduction rate averaging 15-16 pups approximately every 24 days. That's much better than the much talked about cd1's which I purchased from a lab several years ago. they average 12 pups per litter. I had a strain that was more prolific than both of these in the late 80's, but foolishly outbred them into other lines, not knowing what I had. I have recently tracked down their origin. a north eastern state university. But I have been unable to purchase this strain from them. I have tried going through veterinarians who have all been unwilling to assist. I know some other large rodent companies that have this line .but they only sell frozen, and of course are unwilling to part with their stain. Is their anyone on this forum who has experience in purchasing mice from laboratories that do not sell to the public? Any help would be appreciated.
