more than one male???

mike d Nov 04, 2003 05:54 AM

would more than one male(probably 2) be able to live in an enclosure 8 feet long 4 feet wide and 7 feet tall? i would also have some females in there as well as many basking spots and branches.

Chinese water dragon males will fight in an enclosure that size. Aussies may be fine. All dragons have their own personalities, and most dragons will get used to each other eventually, but the stress of having more than one male will probably lead to stressed sickly dragons.

Chinese waterdragons would definatley fight when sexual maturity was reached and DsgnGrl was coorect in her wording "aussies may be ok"----they MAY be. *If* the personalities meshed *and* they were raised together from the time they were hatchlings. Even then you ned to re-evaluate at sexual maturity to make sure they were ok.
Too many animals in a cage that is not enormous though will be problematic for any reptile.

male cwd ..with almost certainly fight if put together.. i have two males right now that can see each other in their respective cages and one always tries to intimidate the other or start a "glass war"... i am going to have to rearrange if i can't get it to stop. the funny thing is that the 13'' stunted suz is the most aggressive male.. if he realized how small he was i think he would back down.. so to sum it up .. i wouldn't do it.. but each dragon has its own personality ..and if you have two passive males it MIGHT be ok...but i don't reccomend it

Imo 250 gallons is the min for one adult male cwd..but mine have about 300 gallon cages... which is approx 48x24x60.... but i have suz who is 13'' stl and he is currently in a 75 gallon...when i had griffin, meako, and suz.. they all had seperate cages in seperate rooms.. and then the girls spook, zoe, and kyla shared a huge cage in my living room.. 8x4x7...... now i have frog and suz and griffin in seperate cages but all in the same room..

I read once on a german site about a guy who succefully kept 2 male wd and 2 female wd together . There was the dominant pair and the others were submissive , that's all . His cage was gigantic (bit bigger than yours), but there didn't seem to be any problems .
If they get well along together , I would try it out ...
