Not Eating

spudsmom35 Nov 04, 2003 10:36 AM

Please tell me I am worried for nothing. I have had my albino burm for exactly one year and he has never refused a meal, live, thawed, fresh killed, small or large. If you put it in there he ate it. He has grown from 5 feet to 8 feet and looks very healthy to me. But for the last 2 weeks he has refused to eat, usually he eats a rat a week. He is not getting ready to shed, nothing has changed in his habitat, he still moves around, shows his natural curiosity and watches me as I do chores in the room. They only thing I can think of is that the room has several large windows and since I do not usually go in there after dark the length of his day has shortened. Do burms have a cicular rhythm with the length of the day??? Would this stop him from eating???? Does he need a vet check????

There really isn't anything to be worried about at this time. A change in the natural light cycle will start to trigger a breeding response in most boids. Though a temp cycle is usually also required it isn't always the case and just a change in the light cycle could trigger this. If this is the cause then the snake might have other things on it's mind rather than food. You really have notheing to worry about. Burms especially one that is relatively grown like yours are able to go extremely long periods of time without eating with out ill effects. Hope this helps, Todd
