Can you feed a beardie just Superworms

tarad00 Nov 04, 2003 10:42 AM

I have a bearded dragon about 8-9 months old and about 14-16 inches long. Lately he hasnt been eating crickets that much but a lot of greens. There could be 20 crickets in his tank but if you drop a superworm in he will eat that immediately and wont touch the crickets. CAn you feed them just superworms or does it cause impaction? Or can he live on just mostly greens and say 10 superworms a day? Thanks for the help!!

He will thrive on mostly greens and much less superworms than you propose. You can offer that amount of supers about 3 times a week and offer greens daily. Make sure you supplement you greens.
good luck

I used to feed my adults the Veggies, and 5 or 6 supers a day.

That was working great until my female stopped laying eggs. She started packing on the weight so I had to cut back.
I also found out that you run a risk of fatty liver disease by feeding too many supers.

I have since, cut back to 3 supers every couple days. This is working great for them, they are in great shape.

Hope that helps

agreed.... I feed 4 supers ever 2 - 3 days. The main staple of their diet is salad and rep cal pellets.

I would not use suppers at all. Try silkworms. They are not fatty at all, have more calcium and protien than just about any other insect food (except hornworms). They certainly don't have the heavier exoskeleton's that crickets, mealworms or superworms have. You can feed as many silkworms as your dragon can eat and the also hold dustings well (with the multi vitamine and calcium powder).

instead of "they".

I use silkies as a staple and was wondering if ladypayne was holding off on the dustings. I know they're more nutritious than crix but I don't know exactly to what extent so if there are good results not dusting I'd wanted to know.
