How hot is too hot?

Solomon Nov 04, 2003 12:11 PM

I've been battling with the temps for some time now, I managed to get the basking spot up to 115, which I know isn't hot enough. Today I bought a 90watt halogen spot bulb and the temps just soared. I had to actually lower my basking spot by about 5 inches to get the temp around 125. Is this too hot, or should it be alright. I haven't measured temps any where else in the cage yet, but I will after the bulb completely warms up.

Thanks

How big is your cage and how old is your uro? That will make a difference in the answer. 125 might be fine for a large tank and an adult uro. If seen people keep the basking spot at 130 or even more. Mine hovers around 118.

The cage is 4'x18"x18" tall and my uro is still a juvie, about 11 months old. I guess I should aim for about 120? Just to be safe?

Thanks
