Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to tell if a young yellow foot is male or female? Thanks, Steve

Yellowfoots can be puzzling in my experience. Often I have seen 10 inch specimens that were easy to identify as males. But then I have also seen many 12 inchers that I couldn't make heads or tails of. I think it depends a lot on the populations involved. Some populations grow to be about the same size as a typical redfoot while others get to be much larger and hence, develope secondary sex characteristics at a larger size. But on the average 11 to 12 inch yellowfoots should be sexable. Some at a smaller size of course. But I wouldn't feel comfortable guessing at say a 6 or 7 incher.
