new requlations to own venomous snake !

budman 1st Nov 04, 2003 01:57 PM

I think this is fair for fish and game to make it a requirement
That to own a venomous snake and be realy safe.
You must be innoculated and very resistant to the said species.
Not just have Antivenom and hope it gets installed correctly.
Thats way too risky and expensive to the public hospital and all that.

Antivenom is primitive to say the least.
and is just another control you have to deal with.
I figure I have saved several million dollars!!!! To me
thats worth it. and venom is free go figure.

The state may agree I am emailing this to fish and game to
get the ball rolling.
any comments?

seriously now man, give your head a shake, do you hear yourself?! how realistically feasible or practical do you think this is? you obviously don't have the full grasp on whats involved and you want to talk risk? There is not a professional institution in the world that would touch this with a ten foot pole (i doubt you could talk even bill haast into it for you either).
i'm sure F&G will find this just as rediculous as i do, and by saying such you probably have actually done more harm to the 'seriousness' of hot keeping than good.

I have no problem with those few people who are willing to do this. Knock yourself out. I might even do it myself someday, but REQUIRING hundreds or thousands of people to inject controlled amounts of poison into themselves is NOT A GOOD IDEA. Some people have life threatening alergic reactions to tiny amounts of venom. At least if you need antivenom, it's administered IN A HOSPITAL where they can handle an alergic reaction. I think you'd almost certainly have far more keepers dropping from botched innocculations than from bites.

Frankly I think F&G will laugh at you and it will reenforce thier doubts about us. You might find a sypathetic ear with the right politician, but only if he thinks he can use it to make permits impossible to get.

Please keep this idea to yourself...

I have to agree with the "this is not a good idea" statement.
While I do see that some people benefit from such exposure, it has bearing of lethal potential to those of us that are severely allergic.......what next...prevent whiplash by starting to drive our cars into trees at lower mph, and gradually increase the speeds of impact?

Try proposing this to F&W and they will add this to your proposed regulation. That a venomous snake keeper needs to be evaluated by a qualified psychiatrist and deemed sane! Which in your case would be a good idea, because you then would be locked in a padded room with a football helmet where you couldn't hurt yourself anymore!
Good job Bud!!

What in the world are you thinking? Please remember that most hot keepers don't play with their animals like corn snakes. I seriously hope FWC laughs at your recommendation. Don't make things worse then they already are. Take your medication and chill out!!!!

Experience & carefulness is the best Regulation. I try to handle my venomous when I have PLENTY of time & NO distractions.
If you really want to shoot yourself up with something, sell your snakes & try heroin. That way, unnecessary deaths won't reflect on snake lovers. There are already too many people trying to outlaw the keeping of venomous species. Let's not open the door & invite these people in.
If you are 100% serious about envenomating yourself, I strongly urge you to #1 seek professional help from someone HIGHLY EXPERIENCED, #2 get a better insurance policy(just in case)HaHa, and #3 don't start showing off if you actually get an immunity. This could possibly deceive others into thinking that the venomous are really not as dangerous. I'd hate to be responsible for someone else thinking they could safely get bit by your snake.(Some people are actually stupid enough to think this).
Anyway, my opinion doesn't amount to much, but there you have it. Sorry about the smart@ss comment about the heroin. Couldn't help myself.

Nice way to make people loose repect for you...... Guess I could chalk this up as another reason why the hobby I love will be cut short....... So we are all supposed to screw up our livers and kidneys in order to keep hots...... Yeah then we can all be as cool as you...... Besides, no one cares about the hot keeper........ "They" care about the people that do not keep hots....... Even though there have been no recorded bites from an escaped hot, that is still the a fear that will help to ruin this hobby...... Thanks for speaking for us and being the voice of the hot community, JACKASS....... Keep your crap to yourself toughguy.......

A note to fish and game, maybe it's time to spot check this guy cuz it's obvious he's not a qualified hot keeper. (hots are outlawed in my province but even I know it takes more than half a brain to keep'm)
