There are members of the West Texas Herp Society that are from the Lubbock area. Check out their web site or forum and you might be able to make some contacts (I don't live anywhere near there).
Actually, I like herping the panhandle, but I don't get to do it often enough. Of course, Western Hogs are one of my favorite snakes, so I may be a little biased.
