South Florida note:

...we just went on a cruise through the canefields. We traveled on 80 & 880, and down Browns Farm Road. We cruised all around Belle Glade and even west of there on 80. We saw a large Yellow Rat Snake, DOR, but beautiful in color. We saw other snakes, DOR.
All in all, while this is a very unspecific report, I must say that we saw many more DOR snakes than we usually see. This leads me to believe that night cruising must be good at this time of year. We were cruising from 9 'til 11:30 a.m. ~Jeff~
....it is still very warm & "muggy" here

Wow! Browns Farm Road. I used to hunt that in the 70s! You can occasionally gray corn snakes on it in addition to kings and yellow rats.
And yes, things can still be out now down here depending on the weather. I found a corn snake on my front porch Friday night at 11:00PM and I'm in Palm Beach County.

That area still gets some heavy collecting pressure. Not to mention increased traffic. If you are seeing DOR herps..check and see how fresh they are. You may need to adjust your time earlier. If they have been there a while it is likely they are moving in the mornings from 8-11 am. Try dirt roads in the morning as well. Especially this time of year. Check the roadside plants/trees with a flashlight as well as along the canal banks near culverts or the outfall at the end of the road. If you need specifics e-mail me at: hrpbrdrsch@netzero.net Thanks Ray G. HBR
