Gaping, Normal??

drgnlover Nov 04, 2003 07:21 PM

Hello,

During the past couple days my female beardie has started gaping from time to time. I know some lizards therm. reg. through gaping, do beardies also? Just wondering if I should have her checked or just normal. Thank in advance for any help.

Andy

Yes, beardies use gaping to thermoregulate. As long as your beardie only gapes occasionally, prefferably when it's on a basking spot or another hot place, it's perfectly normal. If it's gaping a lot, even in the cold places of its enclosure, it could be a respitory infection, requiring medical attention, or your temps could be too high.
