Anyone using or advocating the use of mercury vapor lamps might want to look at them a little more closely and read up a bit on the potential dangers and health risks they pose.

Granted, not everyone will agree with the level of danger, and different interpretations of the same facts will strike a debate that will probably never be won, but I do feel the need to put the task out there to anyone with an interest in them to research and gather your own facts.

A simple search of the web will bring up a plethora of information designed to inform consumers. Try "dangers of mercury vapor lamps" and here is an example of what you'll get: aolsearch.aol.com/aol/search?query=dangers of mercury vapor lamps
(Hope the link works; if not, try it on your own.)

Common sense would tell a person that the mercury vapor lamps contain mercury, but there are so many trusting people these days that many won't bother or think they need to question merchandise on the market. It's surprising (and scary) how many people assume what is sold is safe and someone else has done the research for them. Would you trust a stranger to decide how you should raise your children? No, I highly doubt it: so why trust them to decide what is safe to have in your childrens' bedrooms?

They are even illegal to use/own (different variables of the law pertaining to the how's and where's) in some states, by the way. How about disposing of them? Do you know the proper way to dispose of them? Even plain ol' flourescents are hazardous to the environment and many aren't aware of that, sadly.

Keep in mind, I'm just a messenger, and I would never try to tell anyone what to do, but please... at least research it for yourself.
