Furcifer Balteatus????

I'm still looking for any good info on this species. I don't think I've ever seen them for sale or even kept by anyone. If anyone knows anything, I'd appreciate it! Even better, if anyone knows where I can get several, imports or not, let me know.

The reason you can't find any and probably won't find any is because they are illegal in the USA and, supposedly, in other CITES countries. They are one of the many species included in the ban on importation imposed by CITES in 1995. They are a great looking chameleon and there is info available in several books and some websites.
You might want to look into a few chameleon books to find basic info on the species but it was not successfully bred in captivity in the many years it was allowed importation into the USA. The Kammers served as a holding facility for a few specimens imported illegaly last year (I think it was last year) and they had some pics of the Balteatus in their website.
I do not know what the fate of those chameleons was but I believe they all went to zoological institutions.

Ok, thanks. I've asked about them before and noone knew anything apparently. I have a book with some pictures of the in it and that's why I like them so much, they look great. Nice and clean looking. I figured they were rare or impossible to get (or illegal). I'll check Kammers site. A web search I did didn't turn up much. Thanks again.

There might be a small bit of info on www.adcham.com. Also, the book that may have the most recent info is Petr Necas' Chameleons: Nature's Hidden Jewels. I could check my copy...don't know offhand. They are beautiful chams but as almost nothing is known about their wild population status I doubt there will be export quotas opening for them any time soon. We saw some in jackfruit tree overstory in older coffee plantations near Ranomafana.
