BOA Won't EAt Please Help

boaburmnate Nov 04, 2003 10:07 PM

Hello I have an 8 Foot female columbian boa. I've had it for almost 2 months it fed fine on 2 live rats the first time i fed it. Since then it has been really timid around jumbo rats and shys away when i go to feed it. I was thinking of trying to put her in a rubbermaid with a prekilled jumbo and leave her in there for like 20 minutes or so. Is this a good idea to get her to eat,I know boas are pickey eaters. Any suggestions would be much appreciated thank you.

You can try putting her in the rubbermaid and you can leave the rat for even 30 minutes, since she was a little timid with the jumbo offer something a little smaller and see if she takes. Anouther problem is that now is when columbians are breeding so it is normal for some snakes to refuse food during this time. I have a male dumerils who refuses to eat in january and february which is when they breed. She also might be ready to shed.

Maybe she is gravid? I have a few picky eaters and when I feed them I just put the rat in there cage over night and it usually works. Find out from the previous owner if she was bred recently
