Need help with shed problem...

linda102565 Nov 05, 2003 12:59 AM

Hey guys, I know its been a while since my last post... I browsed through looking for answers, but no luck and got tired of looking...
Monty is having a problem with his shed this time, It is all coming of in peices and mostly on his tummy. His sides and top and partial head is still covered and it has been 3 weeks since he started...
I've tried misting with warm water from a spray bottle and the temp and humidity is good. What else can I do????
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
SINCERELY

I have assisted my BP's with sheds. Use the spray bottle & soak em down good, then "pet" it down the length of the body, using enough pressure to help the old skin come off. Once it is moist enough, you can peel the skin off him, just like peeling a sunburn. Just make sure to keep him moist while you do this, and that you don't pull too hard....you can pull scales off if you aren't careful. Is he used to you touching his head? If not, now's the time to get him used to it. I have one that is head shy still, but once she curls up into a ball, she will let me peel eyecaps off, head shed off, check her mouth, etc.
Good luck!

but you need to figure out a way to increase humidity for the long term issue. Is part of your tank top sealed?

I am beginning with my statement that shed problems can be genetic! Yes, genetic!
Now why do ink this? We should all know that if the humidity is down we will all have shed problems. What I am saying is I have a snake in the middle of a rack and it has problems but the ones on top and bottom of the same rack have NO problems and the ones on each side have NO problem. Just like humans some folks have dry skin and some folks have oily skin.... It make sense to me. BTW I have about six animals out of over a hundred with this problem. Any thoughts?

Are they consistent problems? Shedding that is. Do they have any health issues? Are they jumpy? Do they have adequate security?

Living in Central FL, I don't have shed problems too often. It could be genetic, why not. But I would exclude all other possibilities before going this route.

Seems to be same snakes. All eat like pigs!
I have the burglar alarm on when I am not in the room.
They also breed for me too!

I am wondering what are some potential problems associated with a bad shed? I know that they can get retained eye caps which will obscure their vision.

Parasites that like to feed on dead skin, infections, etc. But these are usually just symptoms of a much bigger problem.
