I have a GREAT project for someone - Give us back WHITE Blizzards . . . .

powergeckos Nov 05, 2003 09:11 AM

. . . I have been wondering why everybody is accepting dishwater gray Blizzards or that hideous yellow streaked (not banana) blizzard. When they first came out - they were very white and cool - but now, like snirt in March (snirt, for your southerners, is snow and dirt combo). or yellow snow (don't ask)

I think the only decent blizzards I've seen recently are from Ray Hine.

I've probably brought this up before on this forum - but this would be a GREAT project that could really make a person some nice coin. I'd do it, but it crosses the fru-fru barrier a little bit . . . .

Hey,

That's a VERY interesting project, Monte. If I was older and actually had money(I'm 17 and jobless.. I'm just an immigrant from Canada, lol), then maybe I would do that because I love Blizzards and I totally agree that Ray Hine is basically the only person left with half-decent blizzards. Very genious plan.

I think the key is "selective" outcrossing. I think that most of the Blizzards got crappy due to the outcrossing. They are probably more robust - but just butt-ugly (that's just my opinion of course).

I wonder how that dominant ghost gene that KN Reptiles has would work for outcrossing? Hmmm . . . .

Hi, i guess i agree.........not sure though. I have 2 blizzards, one is a very bright white while the other is somewhat dullish grey. I don't mind either of them, although i do like white ones. Nala, the whiter one, is a downright misrable gecko, bit me the other nite drawing blood, while Bronx, the duller one, is a sweetheart.

I used to be so fixated on colouration/morph but now i'm all for personality. My personal opinion is that no matter what the morph, i'd rather have a *nice* gecko than a misrable one. Granted i'm not going to get rid of Nala, she'll just take alot more time and work, until i can get her calmed down, if at all. She adds to the diversity of my group and thats fine with me.

Please don't yell at me for this, its my opnion and mine alone.......I do believe that maintaining a genetic diverse population is healthier than inbreeding so much for one trait that the result is deformaties. I'm not trying to say that the breeders out there care more about the money they get for high end geckos, new morphs etc. then they do their animals, not at all!!!!!!!!! Just that if Nala and Bronx eventually breed and all the babies are dull blizzards, i'll be just as happy to have them as if they were bright white.

Just my thoughts.

. . . I was just thinking about you. I was going to ask you a question - but I had a brain seizure or something and forgot.

How's everything? Did you have a good season with the leos?

Great to see you on the forum again!!!
