Possibly getting a Blue Tounge! MORE>>

TebbyGecko Nov 05, 2003 09:34 AM

Hey,

I have never even owned a skink before, only caught some wild ones then let them go. My step-dad well.. we want to get him a Blue-Tounge for his birthday, but of course you need to know the at LEAST the basics on care for reptiles. I'm a leo lover personally, but blue tounges look like an awesome lizard(I've heard alot about them too). SO, anyone have any care sheets on them? (I need to know everything from food to husbandry) or even if anyone knows any tips that I should know, post it please! We went to a pet store and there was a blue tounge there, so we asked the guy some stuff on them.. but it was kind of funny because he took her out then.. WHAM! The little girl was peeing everywhere, I mean everywhere. Ah well. ANYWAY, lol, thanks in advance guys!

Hi Britney
Just a word on the 'peeing thing' with the petshop BTS. They do this when they don't like being handled...but it's usually a trait specific to individuals ie. that particular BTS may do that every time she's handled, whereas other individuals may never do it. Normally they are a very docile species and will accept gentle handling OK. I've even caught wild ones (I live in Australia) that are remarkably docile and, once calmed, will sit still in my hands (and incidentally - no wild one has ever pee-ed on me!)They *can* bite - painfully - but rarely do unless severely provoked or startled, or mistake your fingers for food!

They're a wonderful lizard, pretty easy to care for, too. So good luck with your research and with acquiring one.

Susan
