Okay guys I need some help. I got a "pair" of CO bulls in yesterday. Initial visual observation was that these were two males not a pair. Upon further checking I probed the male to a depth of 12 scales and the "female" to 8. Though I'm not unfamiliar with pits my experience with bulls is limited. In contrast to my reds were the female barely probes two scales deep I feel fairly confident that my take is right on. The seller has agreed to take these back but in fairness I wanted to seek more experienced opinion. So what do you think guys 1.1 or 2.0? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like two males Tony. How did the person you got the snakes from determine their sex? There is definitely a difference in the scaledepth of the probe, but it seem to deep to be a female. If they probe like you did then the seller should get similar scale depths. I had a similar situation last year on a pair of Russian rat snakes that I received. The seller said they had a pair of Russians to send me. They called me the day before shipping and said that when he probed them just before shipping, the probe went deeper than the normal depth to indicate female. One of the snakes he probed was definitely male depth and the other snake probed deeper than usual for female, but definitely not as deep as the other males in the clutch. I took the pair with the underwstanding I may have two males and that I wouold get a female in the future if needed. When I received the snakes, Del probed them and had similar results. One definite male and the other that Del would call a male, but it didn't probe as deep. I talk to the seller allot during the year to talk snakes and things. I talked to him recently and he is sending me a female and wants me to send the one that is in question back to him. It depends on what you are comfortable with on the snakes you just received. If you really want the snakes this seller produces or has, you may want to work with him some to make sure you end up with a pair. It sounds to me like you have 2 males and it depends on you and the seeler what is acceptable for you that need to be done to make it right.
