python drank four bowls of water and then lay still???

lilbitlizz Nov 05, 2003 11:32 AM

My friend called me in a panic last night because she had just fed her ball python and afterwards he drank a full saucer of water, so she replaced it with fresh water, which he also consumed. This went on two more times, for a total of four "saucers" of water (I'm not sure how big they are). Afterwards she said he suddenly stretched straight out, looking like he might be trying to regurgitate, then lay still for a while.

I know snakes drink a lot after they eat, but four bowls? And what could the sudden spasm be all about? Was he just letting the water trickle down, or moving the food down his throat perhaps? any ideas?

I've seen snakes drink a lot after they eat, if the saucers were small it might not be too bad.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?
