Mealworm or Superworm Container

ta2dshtrbug Nov 05, 2003 12:26 PM

Can anyone post a picture or description of the container they use that actually "contains" mealies or supers in a leopard gecko cage and still fosters easy feeding? Everything I have tried either lets them out to run crazy and drive my leopards nuts when they are trying to sleep, or is so prohibitive that the geckos just dont seem to find them. Any help would be great. Thanx, Dave

I don't have any pictures of one, but I think you can visualize a clear glass ashtry. Costs a buck or so at Zellers/Walmart/etc.

Mealies can't climb the straight glass walls, but it's sturdy enough for a leo to climb on. I have mine right beside a piece of 1" thick shale and my leo likes to climb up on the slate and observe the mealies before choosing her dinner. The ashtray itself is only about 1 1/4 inches tall overall, so she can climb right up onto it if she wants (she's only 2 months old, and has no problem getting up onto/into it.

If you have a substrate you could also cut/move a bit out of the way and sink the tray down into it so the top is flush.

Hey, thanx for the idea. I kinda feel stupid for not thinking of it myself. I'll definitely give it a shot. Dave

Clear glass tea light holders (for little candles) also work well. I get mine for 75 cents in the craft section at walmart.

That's a good idea too. I went looking for candle holders at the dollar store but came up empty. All they had was ceramic ones. I might change over to that when I come across some. Wouldn't mind regaining a little floor space for the little thing (although she does enjoy napping under the rim of the ashtray...silly geckos will sleep anywhere...)
