They frequent dark, shady pine woods, and burrow underground and under leaf litter, except after a rain, when they come out after dark to feed or reproduce. being a mole salamander, they spend most of their time underground so you may not even know if you are in the woods and you're walking right over one! and if one hears you coming, it will recoil into the ground quickly. these sals are found in north america.
