Orion is turning white

lizard-lady Nov 05, 2003 02:26 PM

I supposed Orion is going to shed. His head and back are turning white. I have heard you can tear their skin if you pull it off. Is there any other way to help him along, like soaking him in hot water?

Thank you again everyone. I'm learning so much from this forum. You are very patient people

Soaking is a great way to help with shedding or hydration. But it's not always necessary. Unlike geckos, uros take their sweet time in shedding. I would just let it take it's own course (provided your uro has stuff he can rub himself against to help tear the pieces). The soak would only be necessary if you notice particularly stubborn pieces (pay special attention to the toes and tail, they have the most problems).

hope that helps

Thank you Emily. How long does it usually take?

hard to say. our juveniles are usually still shedding in some places when their next shed starts. our adults i'd say take at least 3 weeks, but they're lazy, and thats with our help

Orion is shedding on his legs and head right now. I'll keep an eye on him to make sure it comes off his toes and tail too. I've read somewhere that it's a sign that he is healthy if he's shedding.

I don't know about healthy, but, unless he's full grown, it is a sure sign that he's growing. I've found that tail size is the best judge of health.

He seems to be growing fast. I love him so much. I'm going to take pictures sometime today and post them to the forum.
