Set up and heat question

nancyjo Nov 05, 2003 02:35 PM

Should the highest place in my tank be directly under the basking spot? My highest place, a branch on the same side of the tank as the basking spot but in the opposite corner. (My tanks is set up with one end being the greens and water (the cool side) and the other the basking light and their branch and rock.(the warm side) Only the bottom of the branch and a tip of the rock are directly underneath the light. They always hang out at the tip top of the branch, I think because of hiearchy. I was afraid it would be too hot to put directly under, so it is off to the side. My tank is about 15" high. I use a 100 watt basking light, and the tip of the branch is about 5" away from the screen lid. (I am getting one of those probe thermometers this weekend to check temp.) Just curious. My babies are anywhere from 2 to 4 months old. (They can self-regulate now, right?)Will they choose the higher place in the tank over the warmest? thanks to all who respond

You would have to get the temp at the highest point to have an answer. I would say 5" is too close. I would not put it so close until you are able to get the proper thermometer. Better safe than sorry.
