male dragon got really dark in color in the last 24 hours help?

slipperyjankens Nov 05, 2003 03:39 PM

I just noticed this afternoon that my male dragon got alot darker in color. I dont know if it is caused from being sick or what? also i wanted to know about brumation. How do you know the diffrence if the dragon wants to go into brumation or if he is hideing because of sickness? I noticed that my male will hide most of the day and come out more at night and also only eats at night like a few hours before the light turn off. is this ok.
thanx

Dragons get dark for a variety of reasons the most common being - to absorb more heat. Check your temps. hot side 110-115

When they brumate they go to sleep (mine like being in a cave) and dont come out at night or the next day... it can last for weeks, even months. Get a fecal if you are worried. If he's not eating and pooping try a 20 minute warm bath.

Dragons should not be given food unless they have at least 1-2 hours of heat time left so they can digest their meal.

any more questions, drop me a line. Good luck.

ok so my male has changed back his normal color again, an as always he is ready to eat around 530 600 and ate about a dozen criks. im happy. I always make sure the high temp in the cage at one spot is 115 so i have no idea what this change of color was caused by. I also always make sure i dont feed unless there is atleast 2 hours left of light. anyways thank you.

o and to get back to my brumation question, im afraid that if and when my dragons brumate, i would think they are sick or dead. How do i tell the diffrence without bothering them? also is there a certin time of year they do this and do all dragons brumate? thanx
