Couch's Spadefoot question

skinnypups Nov 05, 2003 04:13 PM

I have a Spadefoot, at least 10 years old. At the end of january I came home to him completely dehydrated. Thought he was dead, but he moved. He went to the vet and was rehydrated, and seemed fine. A week later the skin on his back sloughed off. He has some minor scars on his back, but seems mostly fine otherwise. I have changed his tank to moist paper towels to keep him from dehydrating again.
Recently he has developed some edema under his chin. Last week he started to get brown spots on the top of his head. They are getting slightly larger.
He is still eating, etc. But I (and the vet) have no idea what the spots are.
Have any of you ever had this problem with your toads.
I cannot find any information about Spadefoots in captivity.
I took some pictures of him just now in hopes that someone might know what I can do for him.
I have had him for quite a while, and he is a good little guy (or gal).
I don't know how to directly post a picture, so if you click on the link it will take you to my photo album.
Click on the album called "Cornelius".
Thanks so much,
Cristina

Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with much advice. Other than posting this message on the health forum, you should do your best to provide plenty of heat and clean water.

If your veterinarian has not done so already, he should consult the Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry book.
