CFBN - Wound on Head - Seperate it?

drpicklo Nov 05, 2003 07:22 PM

About two months ago I "saved" a CFBN who had a round wound on top of its head. I quaranteened it for over a month and it is doing just fine. I'm not sure how it obtained this wound, and I'm not sure if I should keep it seperated. Another one has a small abrassion on the side of its body - possibly from rubbing up against a rock or something. Should I keep these two seperate? Thanks!

Sick newts should always be quarantined - alone! Its could be some disease and you don't want the risk of transmitting disease from either newt to the other.

I have one other tank in a very simple set up.

Shoud I medicate the two in the simple set up? They have both been ok (eating, active, etc) for well over a month now. Thanks agian!

Sorry, I fogot to add this:

Also, there isn't any sign of infection on either of them, and the one with the wound on the top of his head has been doing OK for well over a month. Should I just leave them in the 30 gallon tall tank to heal? I change about 1/3 of the water per week (there's a lot of it - mostly aquatic environment with some cork wood on the top).

If I keep the bacteria level down, would it be ok to allow them to heal in their tank? There's 5 CFBNs in there. Thanks.

Its best if you left them to heal alone before introducing them with the rest. If the wounds appear to be healing with no infection, don't use any medication.
