It is a good idea to buy a 6 month old Python. You always want to get a snake that has eaten at least 3-4 meals and has shed at least once. I bought my spotted when she was about 6 months old. I think mine had eaten about 15 meals and shed 4 times.

thanks i got told they will be 30 to 50cm long when there 6 months old how big was urs at that age he said it depends how much the breeder feeds them

I got my Python in September. She hatched in April. She is ~30cm (1 foot) long. According to the log sheet, the breeder was feeding every 4 days in the beginning and then started feeding once a week in July.

Hey Azooinaz,
what size mouse are you feeding your spotted? Because at six months you should be on to at least large fuzzies or small hoppers by now. The reason I ask is because the spotted in that pic is about the size of a six week old; at least in girth.

And for spottedpythons;
it's great that you are enthusiastic about breeding spotteds but before you go and buy breeding age snakes or six month old snakes don't you think that you should try raising them first?
You should get snakes that are only a few weeks old so that you know how to raise young snakes. If you just jump right in and get sub-adults how will you know how to care for any hatchlings you get if they breed? Don't you think that it will be too-late to be desperatly seeking advice on this forum when your eggs go past the expected hatch date, or an egg gets moldy, or your hatchlings won't take pinkies? I'm not trying to discourage you but I do think that you are rushing into something that you know nothing about, and you said yourself that you don't have much experience with snakes! Just slow down, take a breather, don't try to get eggs before you get snakes, and get some six week old pythons. If the local pet shop doesn't have them (and it's best not to get them there) than the best thing to do is to go to a show. Remember don't try too hard and have fun!
Good luck!

Vulcan, the picture of my snake was taken in September. She was about 6 months old then. She just started eating fuzzies a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can get a more recent picture.
