hmm...cage in a closet?

lele Nov 05, 2003 09:32 PM

I have a free standing closet/cabinet and I am thinking about putting Luna in there. What this would mean is that the back of the cage would be flush against back of cabinet, there would be about 2" on either side of the cage but since the cage is deeper than cabinet it would stick out some therefore get some additional circ. on the sides. Front would be open and top would have about 6" of space (or I could increas this by removing a shelf and then there would be 18" of space).

what do ya think??? It would help maintain humidity and since it is white it would reflect the light.

Other than the lights warming the whole cabinet up more than you want it too (or cutting some holes in the top to vent them) and protecting the cabinet walls from spraying why not?

remember mine? I had to seal all the wood with wood stain and it worked fine. If you can pull off the panels and just leave the frame you can staple screen to it!

I used the actual closet for my cage.It is about 4 ft wide by 3 ft long, and about 7 ft high. My father did all the work on it so im not quite sure of all the details. we insulated everything, painted it with green acrylic paint, put some tough screening on the front that swung open like a door, put the UVaUVB blub in the socket and wal-la! It works great, and really convenient because theres no big bulky cage in the way anymore.

Mine is a heavy, solid melamine cabinet. I took the doors off, but if I took off a side panel it would fall apart I do like your idea for a summer outdoor cage for her and I may do that in the spring.

good point about the light/heat!I will keep an eye on that. Actually, in the cooler months it may meant less heat in the room b/c all the critters are in tanks and Luna will be in her closet! My closet cham

Yup, thought about the spraying and will put towels and shower curtains up. Gee, it's beginning to sound like a spa!!LOL!

thanks

Lele, will it get enough air circulation in the closet?

I have it all setup and b/c it sticks out a few inches and seems to be fine. There is some space on either side. Even the heat issue is OK. I will be monitoring it/her closely to watch for problems but so far so good.
