Why me?...

Noodle_Boy Nov 05, 2003 11:16 PM

Well here's a little story that is going to make me out to be a total ass, but hey.. I feel bad enough already.

Once upon a time my leo just came in from the mail, all was well. He even seemed to adjust fine to his new home after a short bout of semi frantic glass clawing. Soon he found his hot hide and nestled in there, sleeping the day away as nocturnal animals tend to do. Evening then came, as I had been eagerly anticipating. I had been waiting all day to feed my new little friend. Also, time was short, because I had plans to go see the new Matrix movie at 8pm. I changed to the night time bulb to see if he would rouse from his hide when it got darker. From 7:15 to 7:30 I waited for him to wake up, to no avail. Finally I started gently tapping at the glass to get his attention. He would open an eye, look at me, and then go right back to sleep. In one instance where he kept his eye open, I decided to place a mealworm at the mouth of the cave to try and get his attention. The mealworm then proceeded to crawl deep into the cave, until it was right in front of him. My leo simply looked at it, then went back to sleep. After this the worm crawled behind his head, and I noticed my leo twitch. From this twitch, I assumed that the worm was biting him, and grew quite concerned. Unable to reach into the hide due to how its possitioned I sat watching my leo just continue to sleep with the ocassional twitch. Facing stress from this, as well as stress from my friends trying to rush me out the door for the movie, I took the cave off from over him, and grabbed the worm in fear of him suffering bite wounds. For a span of 10 minutes, while being rushed by people to leave my house I continued to place worms directly in front of him so he would eat. After a while all he did was curl into a little ball in the corner and close his eyes. Heavily upset by this I was forced to gently push him along to the other end of the cage so I could put his cave back in without crushing him. From what I could only fathom as complete and utter horror, my leo then retreated to the cooler hide located at that end of the cage. He hasn't left that cave since. For the last 30 minutes I've tried getting his attention by placing worms in his line of sight. He is awake now, but will not leave his hide, and this time I dare not let the worms crawl into the hide with him. I am now completely stressed out, because I feel that I have totally mortified my new pet. I have just left an improved food bowl in the cage with him, in hopes that he will eat them while I sleep.

I hope you all enjoyed story time boys and girls, now its time for your humbled narator to go.. wallow in his own self pity. =(

Don't worry about it. He's probably used to having hands come into the tank and doing stuff.

So how was the movie? I've been WAITING for it to come out, but I got out of class late tonight. -_-

Not wanting to ruin the movie for you.. I will simply say.. It was well worth the wait, and more. Go see it now!

I am a matrix freak.. to some extent. I watched all 3 movies, watched the "Animatrix", as well as throroughly beaten the Matrix video game, just for that extra footage. So.. maybe I am a Matrix freak.. Anyways, I personally thought the movie was very well done, at the VERY least, it's pretty. Also, thanks everyone for the reassurance, I got myself pretty upset back there

i've only seen the 1st matrix (had to watch it 3 times to actually get it) and have the 2nd matrix but have yet to watch it. i only bought it coz my cousin is in it she was an extra..lol - the casting call was in SF so a lot of people i knew were extras...lol but you can actually see my cousin in it, compared to the old classmates and friends who were walking around in the background i wanna see the animatrix - there's so many parts, i dont know if i'll get it ahhh~

i'm more of a... comedies/scary movies kinda person

and it's ok, you shouldn't be upset - just monitor your leo's behavior for the next couple days... him not eating tonight doesn't mean he's in bad condition he's FINE! just sleep, so by the time u get home tomorrow you can try again

I love it when scary movies turn into comedies. Final Destination, for example. I was into it at the beginning because I hadn't seen a real scary movie in awhile. I remember thinking when the plane blew up, "Ooh.. this is a scary movie." But... the further the movie progressed, and the more outrageous the blood/gore got, the more I started laughing. It's no surprise that I was the only person in the whole theater laughing. :x

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

lol aww that was cute you were waiting and waiting, yet... nothing happens heh that's funny sorry but it's cute!!

i think you should give your little leo some time to adjust to his new surroundings. let him sleep the night and just leave a dish of about 6 mealies inside... when he gets hungry, he'll come out to "hunt" for food. when he eats, he'll know what to look for again.. so the next time you plop a mealie down on the ground near him, he'll go for it - my leo did that before too... also, when my leo is stuffed, she'll just lick it and turn around - letting the mealworm run for cover under either of the hides or between the folds of paper towels.

just give it a little bit of time and your leo should start eating in the next few days... if he doesn't, try giving him a cricket that's all i could think of.

take care and sorry that your excitement wasn't satisfied maybe tomorrow hehe

it could take a couple of days before your leo gets an appetite. Being stuck in a little deli dish and shipped is enough to make anyone/anything lose its appetite and want to curl up for a nap. Imagine driving all night and then crashing when you finally get home. Don't worry that your new nocturnal pet isn't wake when it should be. It's just catching up on its sleep. And a day or two without eating is nothing to worry about in this situation.

. . . a raving lunatic if you don't chill.

Raising geckos takes a little "Zen" - just go with the flow - let him adjust - forf heaven's sakes, you've had him like what - 72 hours. Chill out, he will eat, poop, fart, shed, all the things that leos do. But not if you worry him to death like this.

take a deep breath and just enjoy your guy. Leos' are tough - just be calm.
