Well here's a little story that is going to make me out to be a total ass, but hey.. I feel bad enough already.
Once upon a time my leo just came in from the mail, all was well. He even seemed to adjust fine to his new home after a short bout of semi frantic glass clawing. Soon he found his hot hide and nestled in there, sleeping the day away as nocturnal animals tend to do. Evening then came, as I had been eagerly anticipating. I had been waiting all day to feed my new little friend. Also, time was short, because I had plans to go see the new Matrix movie at 8pm. I changed to the night time bulb to see if he would rouse from his hide when it got darker. From 7:15 to 7:30 I waited for him to wake up, to no avail. Finally I started gently tapping at the glass to get his attention. He would open an eye, look at me, and then go right back to sleep. In one instance where he kept his eye open, I decided to place a mealworm at the mouth of the cave to try and get his attention. The mealworm then proceeded to crawl deep into the cave, until it was right in front of him. My leo simply looked at it, then went back to sleep. After this the worm crawled behind his head, and I noticed my leo twitch. From this twitch, I assumed that the worm was biting him, and grew quite concerned. Unable to reach into the hide due to how its possitioned I sat watching my leo just continue to sleep with the ocassional twitch. Facing stress from this, as well as stress from my friends trying to rush me out the door for the movie, I took the cave off from over him, and grabbed the worm in fear of him suffering bite wounds. For a span of 10 minutes, while being rushed by people to leave my house I continued to place worms directly in front of him so he would eat. After a while all he did was curl into a little ball in the corner and close his eyes. Heavily upset by this I was forced to gently push him along to the other end of the cage so I could put his cave back in without crushing him. From what I could only fathom as complete and utter horror, my leo then retreated to the cooler hide located at that end of the cage. He hasn't left that cave since. For the last 30 minutes I've tried getting his attention by placing worms in his line of sight. He is awake now, but will not leave his hide, and this time I dare not let the worms crawl into the hide with him. I am now completely stressed out, because I feel that I have totally mortified my new pet. I have just left an improved food bowl in the cage with him, in hopes that he will eat them while I sleep.
I hope you all enjoyed story time boys and girls, now its time for your humbled narator to go.. wallow in his own self pity. =(
