My new cage i built.

pithons Nov 06, 2003 12:07 AM

Here is my cage i just built its 5'6 x 28"w and 20" d. had to build it to fit the corner of the room. its made of 3/4 in berch plywood on top and sides with a malamine floor 3/4 inch. i used malamine for its smooth surface easy clean up and water resistent. (had luck with it b4). then i caulked the corners. as u can see its simular to the neo design but my doors flip upward for easy axces. i drilled 2 holes on top 9" diameter and stapeled it with screen. the dors are 1/2 inch ply with 3/8" lexan plexiglass the lexan glass is unbreakable so i was able to drill holes right throw it to scret it to the plywood not sure the demension of the doors to be exact . i used 2 hinges on each corner of the doors . and put a handle on each ( really sturdy) when open the doors stay fliped up .
wasnt to expensive to build plywood was about 50$ with alot of extra peices left over .
the plexiglass was about 25$ each sheet they measured about 25" x 19".
the screws and handles and hinges were about 15$.
the screen was about 5$.
(bout 125$ to build )
the cage took a lil time to plan but but actually about 4-5 hrs to buid and some time running around to home depo on my day off.
i got my 6' female green anaconda in there until she outgrows it.
hope i can pass on any idea's .
Rick

From the pictures with the door open .... Are the screws holding the lexi in exposed through the wood on the back side ? if so you might want yo find something to cover them as im sure the snake would discover them in a bad way when it gets to discover there there ...

there not screws. i drilled right threw the plexi and threw the 1/2 ply.. and put nut and botls w/ small washers on the inside end. its not pointy. there for wont cause injury.
