clown6933 Nov 06, 2003 01:26 AM

i just bought my first boa. its great im calling it a she but idont know the sex. she is about two months old know. when i bought the snake it said red tail boa x rainbow boa on the tank. is that possible ive looked on the internet for pics but i cant even find anything to do with a snake like this. But i must say it dosent look to much like a red tail boa though but she has some amazing colurs and patterns. she is extremly mellow two shes not head shy or anything from the day i got her not a hiss, nip, strike stance nothing. i also was wondering when i take her out off the tank shes fine but putting her back can be hard sometimes. if somebody could answer these questions that would be great thanks alot clown

Since they come from two completely different genera (Boa and Epicrates) I don't think it would be possible for them to cross. If you can get a pic up we can give you a good guess as to what exactly you've got. As far as it being difficult to get "her" back in "her" cage, sounds normal to me. They never seem to want to go back in unless you can get them intrested in entering one of their hide boxes.

Hope this helps,
Ben

Clown,
. I have pictures of different subspecies of Rainbow Boas on my website. It is highly unlikely that you have a cross between a Rainbow Boa and a Boa Constrictor. Someone who is not real sharp might have labled it as a Rainbow Boa Constrictor.

I have seen this a few times now from Pet Stores... a colombian boa being labeled as a rainbow boa.

You see a Pet Store owner, in many cases, are not very knowledgeable of animals, especially specific snakes like this.

I can EASILY see one of these ignorant (=not knowing, NOT stupid)persons labeling a colombian, or ANY redtail boa, as a rainbow after seeing the 'rainbow' irridescence on their sides....
Thing about it! makes perfect sense! (for these guys..lol)
i'm sure this guy never saw a Brazilian Rainbow Boa in his life!

On the same note, if he DID see a Brazilian Rainbow, I would BET you he wouldn't be able to ID it! He would ask himself, 'but where's the Rainbow?' ! LOL lol lol

it's sad, but at the same time, you gotta laugh! LOL
