I did it! I hated doing it...

I hated to do it, but it had to be done! Thats right, I ...

fed my corn snake a gerbil. Argh!

5 bucks a meal, ouch. Even worse when you consider the fact that we breed our own mice and rats so were not used to having to pay for food items.

But dear sweet Korn hadnt eaten in 4 months, and we had one that a friend had gotten to try to get her Python we've been force feeding to eat. The python refused it, but Korn loved it. Shes had 2 now. I feel so evil.

The good news is I think we scared the Ball Python so badly that he'll keep eating on his own. After the gerbil we tried a mouse again, and tada he munched it. Anything to keep us from putting one of those nasty gerbils in again. Sure.. we could force feed him for 3 months, but it takes a gerbil to spook him into eating. Im happy though, after a year of not eating its good to see him eat on his own.

I breed my own gerbils for snake food as well. And I think they're cute as hell. It's hard to put them down and freeze them sometimes, especially the odd coloured ones I get.

What doesn't get eaten gets sold off to the pet stores. They're more pricey than mice, which is why when I sell off a few at the end of the year, I make enough to pay for their food.

I know, they're cute and all. But at least they smell less than mice and rats. All of my snakes love them over mice. They entice the most stubborn of feeders to eat.

We won't hate you for it. =)
