Anyone Out There Keep Macklott's?

Ball-Pythons.Net Nov 06, 2003 05:48 AM

Hey, the title basically explains itself. I'm just wondering what they are like to keep. Their genera behavoir. And if they make good docile pets. I've heard they can be nippy. Also, what do you house them in?

It'd be even better if you had pics too! I'm thinking about getting one in March or so. When spring comes and I feel safe shipping. They are definitely a great snake. They look amaizng, the prices are amazing, and they don't get VERY big. It's a wonder why they aren't very popular. Hmmm

I've kept Roti Island locality macklot's since 1999. As hatchlings they are very defensive, quick to strike and musk. Once they attain some size they begin to calm down. My adults are incredibly calm and easy to handle. They always retain that incredible feeding response though, so use a hook to remove them from the cage. No one has ever been bit by my adults. I even use them for demonstrations with my daughter's school. I house my breeders in a 4'x2'x2' cage, which is probably a little more than they need. If you do a search in the photo gallery on "Roti" you will find a few pics of my animals.

I have owned mine for about a year now. He is very terratorial in his cage and has an amazing feeding response, but once you get him out and hold him he has never struck at me. I don't know about babies because I bought mine at 4 1/2 feet. I keep him in a rubbermaid container that is about 3 feet long.
