Anybody have a picture of that Piebald Cribo that I saw several years ago?

Fred Albury Nov 06, 2003 01:13 PM

Help:

I saw a pic of a piebald cribo, I beleive it was a Melanarus, about three years ago. Stark contrast white against the dark background color. If any of you remember this snake or have a pic, please post and give either a)Your observations..or b)a Nice pic of it. Somebody asked me about it yesterday and since
I couldnt produce a pic of it, I am begiining to wonder of my memory hadnt faded(Old Timers) and fabricated it.
So...please post pics if you have em'.

I can't think of anything that looked "piebald" other than this snake...which I think is it's normal coloration

that I saw several years ago at a local reptile show. They were PIE-Bald, which is rather roguh I will freely admit, but I am not stating it for marketing purposes. They appeared pretty much nomrla in coloration as any other melanarus, but had splotches of bright white on their sides and on their head. I THINK that maybe chuck had a line on these, and another guy named Rob Z. but I cant remeber for sure. At any rate, I will have to do my homework on this before I post it here again, thanks for the input all.

*Ciao*

Could it be that a common name has been born? That fits the caudomaculatus nicely, I think.

Piebald Cribo
Harlequin Cribo
Patchwork Cribo
Crazy-quilt Cribo
Wolfgang's Cribo

What say ye? I think that Piebald may have sticking power (although Crazy-quilt Cribo takes top honors for alliteration).

we think of piebald snakes as "morphs"
this is something a lot more than that...a new species.

I like Wolfgang's cribo.
Since it's not called Drymarchon wusteri, the least tyhthey can do is name the common name after him!

it looks like a really ugly or primitive yt.........how about 'wolf's cribo'. it certainly is a mean looking customer. whatever became of that other attractive, striped yellow and black cribo we saw a pic of once about a year ago? that thing was baaad!.........

I think that snake had to be a funky melanurus.
Wolfgang has documented that melanurus ranges in SA west of the Andes all the way down to Argentina.

It's never been know to integrate with corais though...

Personally I'd like to know what Wolfgang has to say...How about a name?

I thought it was already given the name "speckle tailed cribo"

Well, the more I think of it, the more I like the common name reflecting WW. But perhaps a rather more oblique reference would be in order: Cribo Lobo.
