i know that afts are notoriously shy and lazy but i was wondering if anybody had more luck in getting them active by giving them more space? currently i have one female in a standard 20 gallon.

I dont think a bigger tank would get them more active, maybe take them longer to get from the warm to cool end!! Its their instinct to be the way they are. Some are more active than others.

1.2.10 Tokays
1.4.10 Leos(13 albino)
1.2.0 AFT's(amel male)
0.2.0 Stenodactylus Petrii(Dune Geckos)
All of my fat tails have their own personality, likes and dislikes. My male amelanistic prefers to sleep right out in the open on the warmer side of the tank. He seems to be the watch dog. Anytime anyone moves around hes up on all 4's with his head up high looking to see whats going on. Personally I think hes anticipating getting fed again. When I drop in crickets hes the first to pounce. Then I have at least 2 females I never see and have to turn over the water bowl to find them. A few others stole from one side to the other and will walk all over the place for a few minutes then settle down till the next day.
They are all very different from what i've noticed.
