tips on how to get my leos to beef up?

shortydsm Nov 06, 2003 07:40 PM

I was looking at various pics of leos & some of them are very big, fat, healthy ones. I want my leos to get that thick! they don't seem to want to eat THAT much though, they will eat a few superworms, crickets and/or waxworms every other day it seems... how can I get them to eat more?

It's not the amount they eat really, it is what they eat. Make sure you are gutloading your feeders properly. There are plenty of sites out there with gutloading recipes. drgecko.com has an excellent one. It's going to cost you some money, but your geckos will get the nutrition needed to grow and be healthy. Also, make sure your temps are on track. They will not be able to properly digest their food if they are too cold. If they are not digesting the food that they bring in quickly then they are not going to eat more.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

Just leave a bowl of mealworms in the tank. I count out 15 per leo. They usually leave a few behind, but it's a good number to start at. Assuming that they know the food is there and eat it every night, they'll get fatter in no time.

A pinkie once a month would help, but personally, your leos are fine the way they are. The "Fatter" they are, doesnt necessarly mean the "Helthier". I usually skip on feeding for one or two days for my leos, because i fear they can get too big.

Also, leos will drop their appetite if they injested the sand while eating.
