I've been post poning this for a while. My poor Central American that has given me troubles since day one finally past on. I doubt everyone remembers but he first wouldn't eat, then started having major troubles partially through his shed. When I finally took him into work with me at the vet I knew something was going to happen. at 8:30am 11/5 Prince Henry past away. 9:30 the vet came in and we opened him up together. I know for many that would be a difficult thing but I wanted to know what had been troubling my poor little one since I also had two other snakes around. We suspect Salmonella is the culprit, there was bad necrosis to his intestines and apparently he had hemorrhaged and thats what was blocking up his food. Dr. Manning told me I was fighting a losing battle and that it was bad from the start but still it is so hard thinking that I could have done something.. and angry that none of the vets that I called could have told me what to do.
- a short version of all the symptoms I noticed:
weight loss, no appetite, regurgiating food even if force fed, especially vunerable during shedding... 90% of reptiles carry salmonella just as we carry e-coli... but the stress of the shed can release the bacteria in a flora bloom and ultimately as in my case, be fatal...
In fond memory of Prince Henry - one of my bestfriends
