i've been screwing up with my girl

compasscreek Nov 06, 2003 09:39 PM

for the past few days my female has been digging off and on.every night including last night i have been checking where she has ben digging for eggs and then smoothing out the soil. last night i did the same thing then sat down to read one of the chameleon books i have(titled chameleons) and after reading realized i have been making my girl work more then she needs to by smoothing out the soil. so i dug up the spot a bit like she had it and left it alone. today she was back at it only deeper. i am pretty sure she layed them today but i will wait it out to see tomarrow. she is so weak, it's killing me to watcher her back fill the hole. i have another appointment to see dr. greek tomorrow afternoon. hopefully her won't need to go.

If she laid the eggs, it's pretty obvious just by looking at her since they will lose 1/3 of their weight or more. But if she's in her hole.... I'd leave the light on until she comes out. I had a female veiled start digging at night and I just left the light on overnight and dug up the eggs in the morning. How long has she been in the hole? Just about 2 weeks ago I had a hole cave in on my female panther.... Scary stuff. I looked in there and all I saw was the tip of her head down in a hole. I pulled her out. SHE WAS PISSED! She had a mouthful of dirt (luckily none got in her eyes) and she laid 24 big eggs the next day. Can you see her at all? Make sure she's not stuck and I'd leave her alone.

i can see her but not all of her. she looks skinnier from what i can see. she is SLOWLY back filling the hole.

Ok. If she's filling the hole just leave the light on and wait until she's done filling the hole and gets into a sleep position, then pull her out and let her rest. If she's awake enough, give her some water and offer food. And the first thing you need to do tomorrow is GET A GRAM SCALE! I trust my scale more than I trust myself to tell me what's going on with my females. Especially when cycling and breeding.

she hole. her back half, like from her "waist"just above her back legs)down is kind buried or covered. turn our the lights and leave her to rest or pull her out but leave her in the tub of dirt? i don't think she is strong enough right know to hang on to a branch though.

If it's just her rear end that's buried, I'd leave her there for the night. In the morning, she'll do something, either bury in her hole or if she's laying, she'll finish.

whenever she wakes up, mist her a lot. She will probably receive water from the mister directly. She must be really dehydrated and will be drinking lots of water.

I think it's best to leave her completely alone and let her finish. Don't move her and let her sleep if she wants. I would also let the light go out as normal. She'll rest better in the dark and continue the next day when the light warms her up. When she's finished she will bury and smooth over the eggs and leave the tub. The more she gets pestered the longer it could take to finish and the more tired she'll get.
