Reptrariums?

Madea Nov 06, 2003 10:16 PM

I know that this is going to sound like a stupid question...
A friend of mine suggested that I get a "Reptrarium" from Petsmart.com for my 5 ft. Boa. Does anyone use these? Are they safe? I just saved this boa from someone who could no longer aford to feed and house it and they sent it with a glass tank that is WAY too small for it and I need to get him a new home soon. They have a pic of this thing on petsmart.com. If someone could help me out and let me know what they think I would appreciate it. I really do want to make a good home for him.

that is a cage designed for chamelions not boas. a 5 footer needs something larger to live in. the snake could just rub its nose to death in a cage like that. at least in a larger more appropiate cage for a boa you would stand a better chance of not having some off the wall problem. a mesh cage in MY opinion wont work.

on this one. I would not recommend a Reptarium for a snake. Besides having the opportunity to rub their nose raw on the screen, you're also going to have a very difficult time keeping your temperatures constant. Lots of people I have spoken to who use reptariums discover that they can't get the warm side of the cage and the basking spot hot enough. I generally only recommend using reptariums as outdoor sunning cages. Good luck.

I WOULD SUGGEST A 4FT LONG 2FT DEEP AND 17IN HIGH ENCLOSURE MINIMUM. YOU CAN FIND THEM ONLINE. YOU CAN GO TO WWW.BOAPHILE.COM A CAGE THIS SIZE WITH HEAT WOULD RUN ABOUT $250 SHIPPED YOU WOULD ALSO NEED A THERMOSTATE TO CONTROL HEAT ONE FROM BOAPHILE WOULD BE $100 BUT YOU CAN FIND THEM CHEAPER HERE ON KINGSNAKES IN THE CLASSIFIEDS. THE CAGES FROM PETSMART ARE NOT AS CONVENIENT AND I PERSONALLY FIND THEM TO DIFFICULT TO CONTROL HUMIDITY AND HEAT. THE BOAPHILE IS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WELL WORTH IT TRUST ME. HOPE THIS HELPS.
