In General, Do Dwarfs have Patterns and Colors as nice as Normal Retics?

Reptile World May 30, 2003 03:36 PM

I was just curious about this. I am thinking a dwarf retic may be good for me. I allready have large snakes such as burmese, dumerils, and an anaconda. However I have alwyas hesitated when I look at the large retics.

I am looking at these photos of the dwarfs and I am thinking they may be the way to go for me. While some of them are every nice looking, I havent noticed any with the extreme colors and patterns that you see on some normal retics.

Is there anyone working with different color phase dwarf retics? Would there be any breeder who you would recomend getting my first one from? Also, if anyone has any good photos of some really nice looking dwarfs, I would love to see them. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

PS, Is a dwarf retic a subspecies of a standard retic, or are they just genetic dwarfs? I never researched that before and I am curious to know.

The Dwarfs in my oppinon are very nice looking animals. However they do have a diffrent distinct color and pattern than what you would consider a normal. I personaly love the way they look both as babys and adults. As of recently you maybe able to classify the Jampea and Kayuadi retics as Python Reticulatus Jeampeanus(Auliya, Mausfeld, Schmitz & Böhme, 2002) wich gives it true subspecies satus. If anybody has the original article that defines them I would realy love to see it. Also here is a real bad photo of a great striped animal that I hatched out earlier this year.
